I am a second-year undergraduate student majoring in Political Science with a concentration in Policy. This summer I assisted a study investigating the relationship between HIV in mice and heroin use via intravenous self-administration, and I plan to continue my involvement in other projects this semester. I first became interested in the realm of drug addiction after taking Professor Riley’s Drugs: Views/Other Lenses course my freshman year, and I find it important to understand the science of addiction before crafting public policies that tackle the issue. I hope to learn more about neuroscience and utilize this knowledge in the future to work in the field of policymaking or the criminal justice system. There’s a general gap between the domains of neuroscience and law, and I am very interested in all the possible ways in which this gap can be closed as neuroscience becomes more advanced and requires legal solutions.
