New Student and Family Programs 4400 Massachusetts Avenue NW Washington, DC 20016-8168 United StatesYour AU journey starts with Orientation. We’ve designed a dynamic orientation to ensure that when your classes kick off in August, you’ll already feel at home, be ready to succeed, and will know a lot of fellow Eagles, too!
Orientation at American University involves a few key components.
Join AU Orientation on Engage: your one-stop shop for the student involvement experience. You'll want to be in Engage to get Orientation updates and to RSVP for New Eagle Essentials and Social Programming. You can explore Engage on your phone via the Corq app.
Join your AU Online Orientation Course in Canvas: our online orientation course introduces you to AU: academics, life on campus, financing your education, safety, and support services, all while learning to use Canvas, the learning platform for all of your courses here at AU. You will automatically be enrolled in your Orientation course in late May.
Attend New Eagle Essentials: When you attend our Live-Online New Eagle Essentials webinar you will get an introduction to a range of offices in large and small group sessions as we prepare students and families for the transitions ahead. Three sessions will be offered virtually throughout Summer 2023. You only need to attend one session, and you will have the option to choose the date that works best for you! Registration opens late May. Students will register through Engage; families will receive a separate invitation via email to register.
Connect with Orientation Leaders: Your Orientation Leader will personally guide you through your New Eagle Orientation through a variety of interactive virtual meetings throughout the summer, and during our in-person Eagle Summit during All-American Welcome in August. With everything from social programs, to one-on-one and group meetings, Orientation Leaders are here to answer your questions and introduce you to the AU Community. Getting to know your Orientation Leader will give you the opportunity to make connections as you learn what it means to be an Eagle.
Join us in-person this August for Eagle Summit and All-American Welcome: Earn your wings when you work with your small group in-person to complete Eagle Summit, an orientation experience that connects New Eagles to their campus through exciting activities, challenges, and fun prizes! But that’s not all – we’re so excited to invite you to All-American Welcome, a jam-packed celebration filled with fun activities, events, and more. Event and programming details coming soon.
