Bio: John Weiskopf teaches screenwriting at American University in the School of Communication, where he has taught in the MFA Film program eight years. He received an MFA in Film Production from UCLA where he was later on UCLA’s extension faculty. He appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show for a documentary film on elder abuse that he produced, directed and shot. His film aired on WTBS and PBS, both followed by panel discussion. He co-produced and co-wrote a documentary on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome which aired on PBS through the CPB. He has written eleven motion picture screenplays and two episodic television series pilots and proposals. Currently, he has an unlimited episodic television proposal entitled ASCEND in active development in Los Angeles with studios, producers and agents. He is the creator and writer of ASCEND. It is based upon his novel THE ASCENDANCY for which he did a book signing tour for Barnes and Noble. He is currently writing his second novel THE WAYNACK’S WORD due to be finished late summer 2021. He has taught courses in screenwriting and film analysis at The Writing Center in Bethesda, Maryland for five years. Besides teaching and working in the film business as a producer and screenwriter, he works as a script doctor. He lives in Gaithersburg, Maryland with his wife.
